The house

The house is situated in the middle of a big garden with several benches. Upstairs we have two spacious double bedrooms with collective shower and toilet and tea/coffee making facilities. Breakfast is served on the ground floor in the dining room, where there are also books, magazines and local information. A packed lunch is available on request. An evening meal can be provided by prior arrangement. We look forward to making you feel welcome in our home.

Westerwolde

Is ancient and has lovely streams, peat and Saxon homesteads . Wherever you go, old churches and many other architectural gems enliven the area. Should you cross the border via the unforgettable Westerwolde-Emsroute for example, you will see that in reality nature has no borders. East Groningen offers you literally and figuratively a wealth of space for a relaxing holiday and this in the widest sense of the word.‘t Laude huus is situated in the heart of Westerwolde, near the hamlet of Laude, and is an excellent place to start exploring this beautiful part of Groningen. Different country- rangers, (Staatsbosbeheer, Natuurmonumenten en Het Gronings landschap) provide lovely short and long distance walks (for instance, 'Noaberpad' 379 km, starts from Nieuweschans in Groningen and ends in Emmerich, Germany, just near the border with Holland, Arnhem). The 'Noaberpad' runs at the back of our house. We mention a few of the cyclepaths; 'Cycling Around Groningen', the Hondsrug (Drenthe) and The Emstal (Germany). On this site you will also find our own walking/cycle route. If you want to go by car, the Dollard, the Oldambt and the Hogeland are fascinating choices, because of their cultural, historical and scenic beauty.

Sleeping on a ridge of sand 

You are staying on a ridge of sand, which was part of former marshland, (1000 years BC). These ridges were the only dry but winding connections between different communities.
